Editorial note: London
London holds roughly a third of the country's Turkish restaurants, but they sit in three distinct belts rather than spread evenly. The first is the North London spine from Dalston up through Stoke Newington, Green Lanes and Tottenham into Enfield and Edmonton, where ocakbaşı grills, bakeries and Turkish supermarkets share the same streets and where a new opening competes with dozens of established family businesses. The second is the West End and Edgware Road belt in Westminster, which serves tourists and office workers and carries the highest review volumes in the country. The third is newer and thinner: south and west London boroughs such as Lambeth, Ealing and Richmond, where search demand has grown faster than supply and where the gap is sit-down dining rather than takeaway. The practical reading is that North London is a place to buy an existing business, not to open a new one; the opportunities in the capital are south of the river and west of Paddington.
